About the Position

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will work closely with the CEO to create the development strategy to grow and diversify financial support for Restore’s approximate $6.3 million annual operating budget. The CDO will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of the development strategy; diversifying revenue streams to ensure Restore’s long-term sustainability; managing and building out the development team; and representing Restore externally with a variety of audiences. The CDO will help oversee and shape the external communications strategy to cultivate and steward funding partners. Collaborating with the Chief Finance and Administrative Officer (CFAO), the CDO will oversee the development budget and manage revenue to ensure that operating budget objectives and strategic goals are met.

 

This role requires a strategic leader and hands-on approach, someone who can not only set direction and prioritize revenue opportunities, but also build the skills, structure, and procedures of the development team. The CDO will collaborate closely with the CEO, Board, and senior leadership to align fundraising efforts with Restore’s mission and long-term goals.

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

1. Revenue Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and execute a multi-channel revenue strategy that balances individual giving, corporate partnerships, and institutional donors with 10-25% growth per year.
  • Design development plans with solid, yet ambitious, fundraising goals and oversee implementation of strategies to achieve those goals.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities to ensure sustainable revenue growth.
  • Partner with finance and program teams to align funding with organizational needs and mission priorities.
 

2. Team Development & Leadership

  • Coach, mentor, and develop the development team, ensuring they gain the skills and confidence to be successful.
  • Establish clear goals, processes, and professional development plans for each team member.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on learning, accountability, and innovation.
 

3. Donor & Partner Engagement

  • Build and strengthen relationships with major donors, corporate partners, churches and institutional funders.
  • Establish new partnerships with private and corporate foundations and churches.
  • Manage a portfolio subset of existing major financial partners
  • Serve as a key external representative for Restore, cultivating high-impact relationships and stewarding funders.
  • Oversee major gift strategy and ensure best practices in donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Oversee and support the team responsible for the volunteer program to engage the community in our mission, fostering meaningful opportunities for involvement and pathways for ongoing support
 

4. Communications

  • Oversee the creation of donor communications, including pitch decks, reports, appeals, and related materials, ensuring alignment with fundraising goals.
  • Provide strategic guidance on external messaging, including digital content, print materials, press, and event communications.
  • Advise on media strategy to increase public awareness through third-party publications and platforms.
  • Ensure communications reflect data, impact stories, and trafficking insights in collaboration with Communications and Program teams.
 

5. Board & Executive Collaboration

  • Work closely with the CEO and Board to engage, train, and leverage board members in fundraising efforts.
  • Provide fundraising reports, projections, and strategic recommendations to the board and leadership team.
  • Align revenue strategy with broader organizational and programmatic goals.
 

6.  Operational Excellence & Infrastructure

  • Strengthen fundraising systems, processes, and data analytics to improve efficiency and impact.
  • Oversee CRM and donor pipeline management, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations, grant reporting, and ethical fundraising standards.
 

Experience

  • Proven experience developing and executing multi-channel revenue strategies.
  • Nonprofit fundraising experience and a proven track record of development leadership, including individual, foundation, and/or corporate financial partner cultivation and acquisition.
  • Strong coaching and people development skills, with experience growing and structuring a team.
  • Ability to work with senior leadership, finance, and programs to align revenue goals.
  • Experience engaging board members and CEO to achieve fundraising outcomes.
  • Experience cultivating six-figure gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

  • Proficiency in using a CRM (preferably Salesforce).
  • Excellent storytelling, public speaking, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to improve development operations, CRM utilization, and donor stewardship processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Salary

  • Competitive salary range of $150,000- $165,000 commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and ability to excel in this role.
